Laura Stacey is of Irish descent through her great-grandfather, Hockey Hall of Famer King Clancy, and has a great-uncle who represented Team Canada at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria.
On May 26, 2023 she announced her engagement to fellow Team Canada teammate Marie-Philip Poulin.
Stacey began playing hockey at age four when she was enrolled in a learn-to-skate/figure skating class but soon expressed an interest in joining the other kids playing hockey on the rink nearby.
She has been dreaming of standing on the blue line with gold medal around her neck ever since watching Team Canada win gold at Salt Lake City 2002.
Her passion for the sport quickly grew into a lifelong commitment that eventually led to her success representing Team Canada on the world stage.
Playing Career
Playing hockey professionally since 2011, Stacey has enjoyed success on the national and international stages. She represented Team Ontario at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, and was a part of the Canadian National Under 18 team in August of that year. In addition, she scored a goal in the gold medal game of the 2011 Canadian National Women’s Under-18 Championships for Team Ontario Red.
Further international success came when she was part of the Canadian team that won silver at the 2018 Winter Olympics. At college level, Stacey committed to Dartmouth Big Green where she became an ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team member as well as a three-time finalist for ECAC Rookie of the Year with later All-Ivy Honorable Mention and All-Ivy first-team honours.
In 2016 CWHL Draft she joined Brampton Thunder where she earned her first goal against Calgary Inferno before scoring an overtime winner in 2018 Clarkson Cup finals against Kunlun Red Star helping Markham to their first ever cup win.
